FRENCHS FOREST – Farrer

Significant restructuring of the geography of this site was required to render the irregular and sloping nature of the backyard into a practical and useable, aesthetic space tailored to modern living. Major earthworks, tiered site leveling and an intricate system of drainage and retaining walls was carefully designed to blend the contemporary new with the existing organic natural rock accent. Integrating all elements revealed a mosaic of uniquely tiered zones and distinctive “rooms” resulting in a unified outdoor paradise escape.

A new area of 80m2 tiled deck area was created adjoining and level with the house to extend the living space into one seamless indoor outdoor experience including louvered roofing for all weather use – effectively increasing the home floor area. With dual stairs down to the newly leveled grass areas – turning one direction to a secluded firepit sanctuary seating area and the other direction to raised vegetable garden beds – then further on down to the pool area.

The previously ungainly and poorly accessible pool area became transformed in a contemporary gesture, replete with sumptuous curves, tiled patio and pool stairs linking the natural organic rock effortlessly with native planting flowing to the adjoining natural bushland setting. This accessibility unlocked the huge potential of the entire property, liberating around 750m2 of outstanding outdoor living – significantly increasing the value of the home.
